What is Acupuncture?

Picture
Acupuncture involves the use and insertion (sometimes) of very fine, sterile, disposable needles at specific points on your body. Using needles at these points activates your body's energy or ki (pronounced "key" or "chee"), releasing blockages to promote healing.

The aim of acupuncture is to stimulate the circulation of your Blood and Ki– to create an unobstructed flow of good quality blood and energy to all the tissues of your body. This results in the best possible function of each part of your body.

Although initially trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chris now specialises in Traditional Acupuncture, as it was first taught in the classical texts, which is beautifully gentle, powerful, and completely painless, unlike its Chinese cousin. Most patients never even feel when the needle has been placed. Patients are often surprised when they end up falling asleep during their acupuncture treatment.

People in general have an uneasiness with regards to sharp pointy needles. The needles Chris uses are almost thinner than a human hair, and inserted just under the tip of the skin(unlike the Chinese style which are inserted deeply), or in many instances, simply placed against the skin, with complete comfort. The needles used are far thinner than the standard needles. Chris´s deeper understanding of energy and life-force allows him to utilise the needle in a much softer way - Like a paintbrush. Brushing and activating the energy channels(meridians) along the body in the promotion of harmony.

Diagnostic techniques make use of gentle abdominal and channel palpation, as well as examination of the pulse. Traditional acupuncture always works on both the root of the problem and the branch(the symptoms), rather than only dealing with the symptoms like most other medical systems. Because if the root of the issue is not located and corrected internally, the symptoms will never truly heal, and they will continue to worsen over time, taking root deeper in the body.

Chris draws from different methods, modalities, and styles - depending on the patient’s needs. This means that treatment is different for each individual - Totally catered to the individuals energetic and physical constitution.
