People write entire books on honesty. Being honest with others, for sure, can be a challenging yet rewarding process. But there is an even more important, and more overlooked relationship.
Honesty with SELF!
Are you honest with yourself? I mean REALLY honest with yourself? Or are you avoiding the realness of your predicament? Are you more concerned with staying comfortable? Comfortably numb?
In my journey, one of the greatest awakenings I have had, was the discovery of how utterly full of shit I was being all along....because I was afraid to look myself in the eye. Afraid all of my lies would be seen. Afraid that all the fingers of judgement would point. Afraid I wasn't good enough, so I had to put on an act.
Wether you are aware or Not, the chances are, you are a world class method actor. With performances worthy of many an Oscar.
We are taught to perform. Then we are taught how to pretend we are not performing. The misalignment gets deeper and deeper. Self trickery at it's most glorious.
I would talk about being honest with others, without ever putting that expectation onto myself first. That was probably the most shameful realisation. But I couldn't run from it...thankfully.
With a deeper awareness, came the discovery, of just how much i had defered from the reality of my situations and relatings, in order to continue with the lies. To sugarcoat. To remain in a false sense of emotional and egoic security.
We place meanings on everything. Rarely are they what is real.
Since this specific experience a few years ago, life has continued to get clearer and simpler.
I invite you, into self honesty. To the largest proportions possible.
You cannot love shit. Most people are attempting to pack more shit on, then looking for books on how to love it.
You must see the shit, the lies, the fantasies. Then you can let them go.
What is left is you. And that is easy-peesy to love!
